I think the cartoon was based on an The Beatles Hello Darkness My Old Friend Shirt  actual case of an old building being demolished, and the workers found a live horned toad in a nook he couldn't possibly have crawled into. Some say he may have crawled in as a baby and grown too big to get back out, surviving on insects that made their way in. But the more popular story was that he was bricked into the building when it was built and survived all those decades. So THATS what that's all about!! I have family that lives in Eastland and I always remembered something about a horned toad there. That's really interesting, and to think one of my favorite old time cartoons is based off of a story from that little town
